Priced at a very affordable (for some)
A$2049 the luxurious Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold mobile phone is now
available from 'selected' phone Australian retailers.

Described
as a "bold and prestigious new style statement" the handheld is
entirely encased in 18-carat gold - though it's only plated. Fine white
gold accents enhance the 18-carat gold plating while the
sapphire-coated, scratch-resistant glass display helps to ensure that
the beauty of the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold endures, says Nokia.
Named
for "a strong wind, originating in the sun-bathed Sahara desert and
travelling all the way to the Mediterranean" we're pretty sure it makes
phone calls too.
It takes photo's too. The precision smooth sliding mechanism reveals a high-resolution camera and intuitive, ergonomic keypad.
The 2 megapixel
camera (1600 x 1200) is video capable and displays on a colour screen
that is 208 x 208 pixels and up to 262K colours. Overall size ofthetriband GSM
unit is 107 mm x 45 mm x 17.2mm making it a little thicker than the
best on the market but certainly a notably thin phone.
Maybe all that
Gold weighs the unit down as the 8800 is a little heavy, but not
uncomfortably so. The unit weighs 139 grams.
The GSm is GPRS and EDGE capable. Standby time is rated at up to 10 days and talk time is up to 2h 45min.
A matching desk stand and Bluetooth headset is also available, to accessorise the Nokia 8800 Sirocco Gold, though these are not Gold plated.
