Some time last year (sorry I can't find the story on mobilised), Intel
made a commitment to help build the market for non-brand notebook
computers, assisting manufacturers to deliver solutions that would
assist system builders to offer whitebooks to cost conscious buyers.
At the time it was seen as a defensive move against AMD's stength in
the market last year, particularly the in-rouads AMD appeared to be
making into the mobile space, a market segment almost owned exclusively
by Intel before 2005/6.
Last week the first concrete outcomes (read: 'product') from that
initiative was announced in the form of an Intel-branded mobile
motherboard. In fact, there are two mobile motherboards, the Intel
Mobile Board MGM965TW and Intel Mobile Board MGM965JB. The laptop
mainboards will be available in June this year as a 15.4-inch
configurable notebook barebones system through Mitac among others.
These mobile motherboards, based on Intel Centrino Duo processor
technology and the next-generation Intel Centrino Pro (codenamed "Santa
Rosa"), support Intel's on-going initiative to simplify the development
of PC notebooks for consumers and small and medium sized business
segments, explains the chip maker.
With Intel Core 2 Duo processors, Mobile Intel 965 Express chipsets,
Next-Gen Wireless-N Network capabilities and Gigabit wired connections
the new motherboards will have all state of the art technology in a
simple to build solution helping smaller notebook makers deliver
notebooks that you would normally only associate with premium branded
product.
The Intel Mobile Board MGM965TW supports dual-core processors, Intel
Centrino Pro processor technology, and Intel Turbo Memory merging the
energy-efficient power of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor with enhanced
manageability, data protection and security capabilities, says the
company.
The Intel Mobile Board MGM965JB is designed to deliver stability,
reliability and expandability to consumer notebook users while offering
support for Intel Core 2 Duo processors technology and Intel Turbo
Memory.
