Page 1 of 4 Motorola has showcased the phones it plans to tempt us with for the second half of this year. It plans to stick with the enormously successful RAZR brand introducing the slightly slimmer RAZR2 with more power and a larger external display. The ROKR media phone also gets a makeover while the QWERTY MOTO Q goes global with support for 3G.
Depending on where you live you might have to wait a while to get your
hands on the second generation RAZRē. The new handset shaves a further
two millimetres off the original RAZR's svelte 13.9mm profile.
But the new phones are not just slimmer, they are smarter too. The
RAZRē has ten times the power, a larger display on the outside and a
number of other features all designed to continue the phone's
popularity and build on what Motorola says is a brand not a product.
In a Motorola first, the new RAZR's will launch
in three editions immediately making it available for all three major
network technologies - GSM, 3G (HSDPA) and CDMA (EVDO). The original
RAZR launched without 3G support and when the company introduced the 3G
RAZR Vx it was significantly more bulky that its razor thin cousins.
Also coming of the drawing board is the new MOTO Z8 "Media Monster" as
well as two new MOTO Q versions and the ROKR Z6 and V6m all of which
will begin shipping in Europe and Asia within the next month, says the
company.
"This focused new product portfolio further advances Motorola's goal of
bringing the ultimate mobile experience to customers around the globe,"
said Ed Zander, Motorola's chairman and chief executive officer.
"Built on a cutting-edge technology platform, these devices feature
powerful multimedia, messaging and innovative business capabilities.
With this exciting product line-up, Motorola is once again redefining
the cell phone for the world's evolving mobile community," he said.
Motorola enjoyed spectacular success with the first generation RAZR and
although profits have slumped as Motorola moved to buy market share in
an increasingly competitive handset market, the iconic RAZR has ensured
Motorola a place in the market giving it the breathing space to
introduce new designs at the top end as well as a host of value phones
dubbed the W-Series.
Its been a tough year for Motorola's mobile phone division, which has
aggressively targeted emerging markets with low-cost phones and allowed
network operators to heavily discount its premium range of phones.
