Telstra is offering customers the option of signing up to its 3G mobile phone network, Next
G using pre-paid accounts. Initially access to the new network was only available to post-paid account holders.
Over
half of all Australian mobile phone users are on paid
accounts so offering this alternative is essential to increase the attractiveness of the new network for customers.
"The launch of the Next G
Pre-Paid service means customers can now enjoy an exciting range of
mobile features that haven't been available to pre-paid customers
before, and all with the security of pre-paid cost control," said
Telstra Consumer & Marketing Executive Director, Tim Copper.
"Telstra's
Next G network offers superior speeds, coverage and content and
is proving a popular replacement for the aging CDMA network, which is
scheduled to close in January next year.
"Covering 98.8 per
cent of the population and more than 100 times bigger geographically
than any other 3G network in Australia, the voice quality, in building
coverage and advanced features of the Next G7trade; network mean our
CDMA pre-paid customers can make the move to the new network with
confidence," Copper said.
Telstra's Next G
Pre-Paid customers can get easy, 1-click real-time access to content
and applications including:
- 16 channels of FOXTEL" by Mobile covering news, sport, documentaries and children's programs;
- Award winning BigPond Mobile content offering entertainment, news, and exclusive updates from the AFL, NRL, and V8 Super cars;
- Downloadable music tracks, photos and games;
- Advanced Sensis search services such as CitySearch, WhereIs, and Trading Post;
- Email access, offering the communication convenience of a PC without wires and cords; and
- Video calling offering an ideal way to keep in touch with family and friends.
Telstra
Next G Pre-Paid customers can select from one of two handsets, the LG
TU500 retailing for $299 or the Telstra 256 for $249. The number and
range of devices will increase in the months ahead.
With the launch of pre-paid on the Next G network Telstra will also
stop selling CDMA pre-paid handsets as it prepares to shut down the
CDMA network entirely.
